Indonesian marriage invitation - what do to?

Posted by Andrea Rosenkratz at November 14. 2007

My family has been invited to a marriage in April in Indonesia and have no clue on what to expect. The only thing we know is that it will be a traditional marriage.

How are we expected to dress? Is it a religious ceremony? And the children? Arethey included or are we supposed to ask if the invitation is extended to them too?

If there is any Indonesian who could help, I would be truly grateful to have some guidelines

I hope I can give you some "clue" on what  to expect in an Indonesian Wedding.
First of all, to tell you the truth, in our custom A Guest is the King, therefore we don't really bother what they wear especially for 'the special guest/foreigners'.
and Secondly, We're also very family oriented, therefore children are always welcome.
In general, people wear clothes similar to western style. For special occasion (celebration), the indonesians wear traditional dress and each region has its own traditional costume. I can say, a dress code for a wedding ceremony is Formal - Smart Casual. Women can wear dress and men can wear formal shirt or a suit with tie (depends on the timing,  (noon or evening)), but of course you also have to consider the hot weather, especially if it's an outdoor party.
to get clearer picture an more elaborate explanation about Indonesian Wedding perhaps you can visit this link http://www.indoindians.com/living/wedding.htm  a modern one or more tradional one in http://www.webway.com.au/wedding/party.htm
